Children's Burn Camp became a reality by opening in 1991 after many years of dedicated planning by President, Arthur C. Luf. The camp is located in Union, Connecticut in a beautifully wooded 176 acres. The property contains its own pond for swimming and boating. The Burn Camp is the only one of its kind in the Northeast.
All children attend free of charge. All expenses for lodging, meals, arts/crafts, activities and programs are paid for by the Foundation.
Most children attending Burn Camp are from inner-cities, or out of the country, and have never seen a campground or swam in a private lake, not to mention boating, hiking, fishing, archery, gold, sports of all kind, challenging rope course, overnight campouts, campfires, talent night, dances, and all other activities enjoyed by them during the week. Many times, articles of clothing, personal hygiene products, and sleeping bags, must be provided by the Foundation.
Counselors are comprised of medical burn personnel, burn survivors, caring individuals and active and retired firefighters, all of whom serve voluntarily.
In 2005, 52 terrific kids attended camp free of charge from burn centers in New England, New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and from other countries like Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Peru, Croatia, and Vietnam.
